Discovering Hendrix at Handel & Hendrix in London

With regard to my apparently non-related Hendrix travels, on Sunday I visited family in the City of Wells in Somerset, pretty certain that Hendrix would not in any way feature over the weekend. Indeed visiting classical musicians I wasn’t even going to mention his name, for a change.

Touring the splendid gothic Wells Cathedral, admiring the architecture and avoiding any risky looking staircases I found myself in the octagonal shaped Chapter House displaying a local art exhibition. Glancing around the room amongst an endless sea of pictures of flowers, fruit, birds and tigers (?) who should sit pride of place? You’ve guessed it- JH. How weird was that. But there is a cloudy lining to the story – camera phone was all out of juice so you will just have to believe and imagine. Unless anyone is in Wells Cathedral Chapter House anytime soon.

Of course Glastonbury is close to Wells it was perhaps not that suprising that there are Hendrix-fan artists in the local vicinity. Off to Hanover this weekend for a Handel related trip. Will I find a Hendrix connection there – in any case I will make sure my phone is charged.

Enthusiasm level: On trend
Progress: Hendrix heaven
Quote: “No you can’t borrow my camera to take a picture of that…”

About Sarah Bardwell

Handel & Hendrix in London Trustee and leading the team that is reinstating, in the adjoining building, Jimi Hendrix's London flat to open to the public. Quirky twist of chance meant that baroque legend Handel lived at 25 Brook Street in the 18th century and that rock legend Hendrix lived next door in the 1960s.
